13: New Narratives For Argentine Metropolitan Territories In A Post-City Era

Facing rapid urbanization, territorial inequality, and environmental stress, Argentina’s urban regions demand new ways of seeing. This ongoing project focuses on the development of a geoportal for thematic web cartography on urban territories in Argentina. The project combines statistical data (1991–2022) with open geospatial technologies (QGIS, Leaflet) to produce high-resolution, interactive maps. These maps are published through a geoportal designed according to principles of accessibility, responsive design, and narrative clarity. The notion of meta-responsive cartography—maps that adapt to different user profiles and reinforce the communicative goal of each dataset—guides the design approach. Through tools that emphasize multiscale socio-spatial dynamics, such as thematic layers and interactive texts, the geoportal enables both expert and non-expert users to explore the complexity of urban territories in Argentina. By visualizing patterns of urban concentration, ecological encroachment, and socio-demographic transformation, the platform supports critical knowledge, fostering informed decision-making and inclusive urban futures.
