179: Parametric Modeling of Historic Modernist Buildings: A Systematic Comparative Review of Software and Programming Languages
This article conducts a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) of software and programming languages for HBIM and shape grammar, and presents a practical comparative analysis. The methodology is based on the development and formalization of the shape grammar for the structural mesh of the former National Faculty of Architecture building (JMM Building). Based on this grammar, a parametric algorithm was developed and implemented in five different environments: Revit (Dynamo), ArchiCAD (GDL), Rhinoceros (Grasshopper), Blender (Python), and SketchUp (Ruby). The results of the SLR and the practical comparison, based on criteria such as flexibility, interoperability, performance, cost, and support, show that creating complex parametric elements requires specialized knowledge. The conclusion is that HBIM is a valuable tool, but the choice of the appropriate software and language is strategic, depending on the project needs, workflow, and team expertise.
