181: Panomontaje Vr: A Novel Method For Constructing Virtual Reality Environments Using 360° Images and 3d Models For Early Design Stages
Building high-quality virtual environments is a resource- and time-intensive task, often requiring detailed 3D modeling, complex lighting setups, and precise interactions. This paper presents Panomontaje VR, a novel, hybrid, low-cost method for early-stage architectural design visualization. The technique combines 360° panoramic photography with low-resolution 3D models from a fixed viewpoint, creating visually compelling and spatially accurate virtual scenes that can be experienced in VR headsets. Unlike traditional 3D modeling or photogrammetry, Panomontaje VR significantly reduces technical complexity and production time while maintaining perceptual realism. The method was validated through quantitative, qualitative, and mixed strategies involving comparative testing, real-world applications, and workshops with architecture students. Results indicate strong performance in speed, ease of use, and perceived immersion, positioning Panomontaje VR as a viable tool for rapid, iterative design processes.
