277: Virtual Reality and Biometric Sensors In Neuroarchitecture: A Review of Experimental Approaches

Neuroarchitecture employs tools like Virtual Reality (VR) and biometric sensors to examine how built environments affect cognition, emotion, and behavior. However, a significant gap persists in translating experimental findings into actionable design strategies. This review analyzes 37 empirical studies (2015-2025) to map research directions and identify the barriers hindering practical application. The analysis reveals four thematic axes: the impact of architectural elements, cognitive-behavioral responses, emotional outcomes, and methodological development. While the field offers valuable insights, implementation is constrained by small samples, technical limitations, data interpretation challenges, and a "reality gap" between virtual and physical settings. This review highlights the growing interest in the field but argues for new analytical and ethical frameworks to transform isolated findings into holistic design knowledge, connecting neurophysiological data to concrete applications in architectural projects.
