39: Minotaur Edubot 2025: The Creative Process In The Development of A Robotic Fairing Through An Integrated Manufacturing System
This paper presents an innovative proposal for a robotic fairing for the EduBot Project, an educational robotics initiative of the Robotics and Embedded Systems Laboratory of the School of Engineering (LAROSE LAB UFRGS). Inspired by the symbolic figure of the Minotaur, the mascot of the Athletic Association of the School of Engineering (AAEE UFRGS), the fairing was developed to express the institutional identity through a robust, lightweight, functional, and aesthetically striking design. The product was designed to attach to the robot's structure, protect its components, allow for modular part interchangeability, be ergonomic, and visually highlight the mythical Minotaur. The design process included semantic panels, ideation through sketches, 3D modeling (organic and parametric), and full-scale 3D printing. Among the 3D modeling methods evaluated, the parametric model was the most effective due to its adjustment characteristics and dimensional accuracy. The work resulted in the final configuration of a fairing attachable to the EduBot robot: the Minotauro EduBot 2025 Robotic Fairing. Its validation with students and teachers was successful, and its respective projective technical files were made publicly available for educational use.
